Following the example of composers such as Charles Ives, who pursued composition while working outside the music world, Corey Field is a professionally trained composer who is better known as a prominent entertainment, media, and copyright attorney at his Los Angeles based law firm Corey Field Law Group, P.C.
Corey holds a B.A. in Music from the University of California at Santa Barbara, and a D.Phil. (PhD) in music composition from the University of York, England. His music studies included one year at Edinburgh University, Scotland as part of the University of California Education Abroad program, and a summer at the Aspen Music Festival studying composition. In this early career as a professional composer, Corey had commissions, performances, broadcasts, recordings, and awards, including BBC Radio broadcasts, commissions funded by leading organizations including the Arts Council of Great Britain, premieres in venues including The Wigmore Hall, awards including two BMI Student Composer Awards, and recordings on independent record labels. Several early works including chamber, vocal, and choral works were published by Helicon Music Corporation, the United States affiliate of Schott Music International, and are available for purchase from Schott at:
